These cards were souvenirs from France, sent by Sapper Len Pettet to his wife Rose or his children Anne and Ted (?). There are various dates in 1917/18 and his name and number are visible in varying degrees on some. The handwriting is all in pencil, but quite legible, and mostly concerns domestic events. His name is not visible on all, but some personal details are visible on most of them. The condition is good for their age. However, the whole series (seven in all) had been mounted on board, from which they have been carefully removed, leaving some scars on the reverse as well as remains of the mounting paper. The cards themselves are somewhat foxed, but the silk is in nice, bright order. (The second photo down has come out too dark - forgive the photographic process.) |
