Title 2nd pattern Luftwaffe flyer's dirk by Robert Klaas
Nationality German
Period 1937-45
Sold

Introduced initially in October 1937 as an officer's dirk to replace the 1935 model, this was also authorised to be worn by all portepee-ranking NCOs, including cadets and flying crews by March 1940. The old model could thereafter only be worn by officers who had received it as an award or presentation.

The blade is marked 'Robt. Klaas // Solingen' under the twin stork logo of this firm. It still has 70% of its original EPNS finish with a marked degree of spider rust tracing from poor storage over the years. The point has also suffered abuse. The trolon/celluloid grip only has half the original wiring and has several minor chips. The aluminum fittings are a little worn and oxidised in places. The scabbard has lost all its annodised finish and has scattered scarring from old surface rust (now mostly cleaned off). However, the price reflects all these defects on an undoubtedly genuine dagger.

testimonials

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
