Title 2nd Lancers (Gardner's Horse) officer's silver mess dress collar badge (facing right)
Nationality British Empire
Period 1930
Sold

'SCINDE' inscribed on the scroll was an honour previously borne by the old 4th Cavalry and first granted to its ancestor the 6th Bengal Irregular Cavalry for exceptional services in Sind during 1844. When the 2nd Lancers and 4th Cavalry amalgamated to form the new 2nd Lancers (Gardner's Horse) in 1922, this badge was chosen.

In 1935 the regiment became Royal and the badges were then changed. Since this example (nearly 3.5 cm tall) is Birmingham hallmarked for 1930, it would only have been used until 1935.

It is a die-struck silver badge and is in excellent condition.

...acquiring this bayonet has completely changed my way of thinking on collecting bayonets. I have become extremely fond of the bayonet... Thanking you once again for the very professional way in which you handled the money [going to the wrong account] problem.
