'E. Remington & Sons Ilion N.Y.//Elliot's Patent Dec. 12th 1865' stamped on barrel rib, with London proofs on each face. This mid-production model, similar to the first, is fitted with a manual extractor. The bores are in excellent shape with minor pitting, and the action is also good. The rosewood grips lack their original varnish. This is the classic Mississippi river boat gambler's weapon, also carried by many cowboys and sherrifs as a back-up weapon in the old Wild West. The 41 calibre black powder cartridge packed a surprisingly heavy punch at close range, certainly enough to knock a fellow card player off his chair. (All original parts, springs, etc.). |
