Title 1st Fifeshire Rifle Volunteer Corps helmet plate
Nationality Scottish
Period c 1880
Sold

This plate dates to 1880 when the various Corps of Fifeshire RV were consolidated as the 1st Fifeshire RV, with HQ at St. Andrews. It would have been worn on the OR's pattern blue cloth home service pattern helmet. The unit became 6th (Fifeshire) Volunteer Battalion of the Black Watch in 1887 and 7th (Territorial) Battalion Black Watch in 1908.

This is a single piece die-struck plate in white metal with three copper lugs on the reverse, now flattened (for display purposes?). The mounted knight represents the Thane of Fife. It is just over 5" high and, apart from the flattened lugs and some mild distortion to the garter and knight, there is no damage.

Just a short note to let you know that I have collected the Police fur cap this morning from the Post Office. I am really happy with it, and for sure I will give a thumbs-up to your service. This was the first item I ever bought from you, and I hope it will not be the last.
