Title 18th (The Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot officer's 1881 pattern Home Service helmet plate
Nationality British
Period c 1881-1922
Sold

This is the oldest Irish infantry regiment. It was raised as the Royal Regiment of Ireland in 1695 and served until 1751, when it became the 18th (The Royal Irish) Regiment of Foot. It was disbanded in 1922 on the partition of Ireland. The Home Service helmet was worn on service at home; when they went overseas, they wore the white tropical helmet.

This badge is a slightly scruffy example, the gilding being worn on the highlights and the securing pins on the back are missing. Otherwise, it is a reasonable example with all its star points intact.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
