This was the classic KuK bayonet of the Great War. The hilt is marked for the 73rd Regiment, whose depot town was Eger, their Colonel-in-Chief being Duke Albert of Wurttemburg as of 1898. The fruitwood grips date it, as the war time ones were in oakwood. The Mannlicher was an 8mm bolt action with a five shot magazine. This has its original frog, which is somewhat faulty where the seam under the belt loop has partially disintegrated. There is some old corrosion on the blade, together with some rust patches on the hilt. Both grips are sound, along with the press stud. The blade has the Steyr OE/WG mark and KuK eagle, with the FG/GY Budapest arsenal mark on the frog stud of the scabbard |
