'George Osborne / Sword Cutler / Bordesley near / Birmingham' is engraved on the reverse. This is the classic sword which enabled British Light Cavalry to trounce the opposition time after time in the Peninsula and at Waterloo. It has a far better balance than the French equivalent, which was hilt heavy. The silver grip wire is missing in its entirety and both scabbard and hilt have a fair degree of dark patina from age and neglect. However, the blade is still bright and in good shape and the grip is sound, not soft with worm, though there might be the odd worm hole. There is evidence of a small old resin repair to the centre of the leatherwork on the grip. |
