Title 1796 pattern Light Cavalry officer's sword
Nationality British
Period c 1796
Sold

'George Osborne / Sword Cutler / Bordesley near / Birmingham' is engraved on the reverse. This is the classic sword which enabled British Light Cavalry to trounce the opposition time after time in the Peninsula and at Waterloo. It has a far better balance than the French equivalent, which was hilt heavy.

The silver grip wire is missing in its entirety and both scabbard and hilt have a fair degree of dark patina from age and neglect. However, the blade is still bright and in good shape and the grip is sound, not soft with worm, though there might be the odd worm hole. There is evidence of a small old resin repair to the centre of the leatherwork on the grip.

Just to let you know that the kukri arrived today safe and sound, many thanks for sending it so quickly. I'm more than pleased with this kukri, I'm so glad I spotted it on your website as I don't think I've ever seen another one like it for sale anywhere.

Once again many thanks and I hope to do business with you again in the future.

The day the blunderbuss arrives I could not stop looking and feeling the gun for at least one hour. My wife told me that I was sick........ I am very happy, it is a piece of craftsmanship! Well made! I have 5 blunderbusses but all iron barrel, also from England but this one is gorgeous with the Brass Barrel.

Please keep me informed when you have any other type of blunderbuss. Thanks my friend!
