Title 15 carat gold swagger stick, 3rd Glamorgan Rifle Volunteers
Nationality British
Period 1898
Sold

Engraved: 'Presented to Major W.D. Rees by Col. Richardson and officers of the 3rd G.R.V. Sept. 3rd 1898'. In 1908, under the Cardwell reforms, this regiment (based in Swansea) became the 6th (Glamorgan) Battalion Welsh Regiment. Regimental swagger sticks in gold are rare, and a presentation example in gold is even rarer.

This stick is mounted on a malacca cane with a gilt finial at the other end. There are minor blemishes to the malacca, but, considering the age, it is a magnificent example. Major Rees seems not to have had any foreign service, but rose to at least the rank of Lt. Col. as I also bought his full dress uniform (already sold) from one of his descendants. The whole piece measures approximately 24".

Just to let you know that the bayonet arrived safely this morning by Royal Mail. I am delighted with it and it will be put to very good use at some forthcoming events.

I collected my iron cross this am from the sorting office. Thank you for the medal; as before it's a very nice one. Thank you for your prompt service and I look forward to purchasing more in the future from you and your wonderful site.
