Title 109th Regiment (Bombay Infantry) glengarry badge
Nationality British
Period c 1874-81
Sold

In 1881, this regiment became the 2nd Battalion, the Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians). Its origins are in 1761-95 as part of the British army; in 1795, they were disbanded and, from 1853-81, served as the HEIC (Hon. East India Co.) 3rd (Bombay European) Regiment, becoming in 1861 the 109th Bombay Infantry.

The Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment was disbanded in 1922 on the partition of Ireland. (The 1st Battalion was the 100th.)

The lugs are cast as an integral part of the badge, which is of exceptional quality. It may be an Indian bazaar casting. The condition is excellent for its age with relatively little wear and tear.

testimonials

Just a brief note to confirm that the sabre has been delivered today. All is as it should be. I have to say I’m impressed with the ‘custom’ packaging, obviously essential in your line of business. I have made a very quick inspection of the sword & it fully lives up to your accurate description, very pleased with the purchase.

The helmet arrived the day before yesterday and I had a look at it today and everything looks perfect. You packed it up very well indeed. ... I've never seen him so thrilled with a gift!
