This is an old East India Co. regiment, which started life in 1854 and progressed through several changes of title from the 3rd Madras Infantry to the 108th, becoming the 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1881. As with most of these old EIC regiments, the bulk of the other ranks were Irishmen. This is a die-struck brass badge, with one original brass lug and one copper replacement one. The condition is excellent for its age with relatively little wear and tear. |
