K98 combat bayonet by Eickhorn, matching numbers - German
This is the classic Wehrmacht combat bayonet of the Third Reich era, carried by all combat units, although the brown frog would suggest Luftwaffe or perhaps early Kriegsmarine use. Carl Eickhorn is perhaps the most well known of the Solingen cutlers of the era.

Double-etched K98 dress bayonet, Ernst Pack & Sons - German
This is a classic Ernst Pack dress bayonet, with no maker's mark, but the 'signature' screw bolts which no other maker used. The original owner must have been in a heavy artillery unit, as suggested by the obverse blade etching. These weapons were normally only worn when off duty, but in uniform.

Whitworth bayonet marked for 2nd/60th - British
This is the bayonet for the .451 muzzle-loading Whitworth rifle. In extensive trials these were issued in 1863-67 to infantry units, including various guards and rifle regiments. Some 8,000 bayonets were produced, the general scale of issue being some 68 rifles and bayonets per regiment. The 2nd Battalion 60th were in the Maori Wars 1860-70.

Silver smallsword, Inspecteur aux Revues - French
This sword, dating from 1805-09, would have been carried by an Inspecteur aux (or 'des') Revues (the equivalent of Commissary in the British Army), responsible for pay, provisions (hence the ears of wheat on the guard and knuckle bow) and the depot system. Before this, they simply carried an ordinary infantry sword. The sword is rare.

German army issue combat belt, aluminium buckle - German
This is the first pattern Heer aluminium issue waist buckle, stamped 'FLL' near the catch (for Friedrich Linden Co of Ludenscheid). The leather tag is faintly stamped 1938. These belts were worn in all the early campaigns: Poland 1939, France 1940 and in the beginning of the Russian campaign of 1941.

KuK paper knife - Austrian
The hilt incorporates the arms of Hungary and various arms of Austria (introduced 7 November 1915), with the motto 'Indivisibiliter ac inseparabiliter'. On the back is 'Geschutzt' (= patented) Hirschler' and the blade is stamped 'Offizielle Kriegsfursorge' (official war fund) - ie it is an official piece for raising money for the war effort.

Kriegsmarine belt buckle - German
This is the mid-war version, which replaced the gilt aluminium / gilt steel / brass type of the pre-war and early war years. It is virtually mint, with a little rust at the goal post catch on the reverse. Otherwise there is hardly any paint missing from the piece, one of the best examples I have come across. There is no maker mark.

Stormtroop belt buckle - German
This is a typical Sturmabteilung buckle of two-piece construction with a gilding metal centre and a brass field and would originally have been worn on a brown leather belt. The Stormtroops were the fighting arm of the Nazi party when it came to disputing control of the streets with the Reds.

Pair of silver shoe buckles by William Eley - British
This is a classic pair of Artois-style buckles from the end of the American Wars, but probably pre-dating the French Revolution of 1789. Eley (worked from 1770, died in 1824) of Clerkenwell Green, London, a silversmith, was the king of 18th-century bucklemakers and the inventor of the patent spring clip mechanism.

Pair of silver-plated court shoe buckles - English
This is a particularly nice pair of buckles, which typically would have been worn at court or on special occasions. The base is silver-plated bronze with ormolu ornaments (the gilt elements on the frame).
